Four athletes to represent Australia

The Judo Federation of Australia (JFA) has selected its team to represent Australia at the 2010 Oceania Judo Championships to be held in Canberra on the 14th and 15th of August this year.
The South Australian Judo Academy (SAJA) is proud to announce four of its athletes have been chosen in the team, and will represent Australia over six different categories. A further two athletes have been selected as reserves in an unprecedented result for the Academy.
For three of the SAJA athletes it will be their international debut.
SASI Talent Scholarship holder Courtney Barks (-57kg) and team mate Ross Merrett (-66kg) are sure to make it a debut to remember. Both athletes have impressively qualified in two age categories – Cadets (under 17 years) and Junior Men/Women (under 20 years). Leah Uncle (-52kg) has also qualified for her international debut, and will compete in the Under 20 years age category.
The young athletes will have experience close by, with SAJA fighter & SASI athlete Steve Brown competing in the -66kg men’s division – where he is currently Australia’s number one ranked competitor.
South Australia’s only Judo Olympian (Beijing 2008) will launch his campaign to earn selection for his second Olympic Games. The Oceania Championships will kick off a busy four months for Brown which include the World Championships (Tokyo, Japan) and World Cup (Apia, Samoa).
The athletes will prepare for the tournament with a final training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra at the beginning of August. -66kg Reserve Will Jenkins will also join the team for the camp.
